Our adult students will take the DPS approved handbook test at the end of the course!

FAQs

  • Adult students may begin the program once registraion is complete and fees have been paid. ONce this has occurred, students log inot their accoutns at https://centraltexasdrivingschool.com and should begin with Top 1. Periodically, students will be prompted to verify their identity based on initial enrollment questions. These questions should be answered quickly and accurately.

    Each topic is set on a timer. Students must complete all aspects of every topic to earn credit.

    XLR8- Adult Driver Education can be completed in as little as 6 hours. Students are given a month to complete the coursework, however. The DPS approved Handbook Test will be administered at the end of the course.

    Text-to-Speech options are available. Students may have pages read and re-read to ensure concept understanding.

    Extra time - students have up to one month to complete the coursework necessary to obtain their learners license!

    The official ADE 1317 (Completion Certificate) will be emailed to the student within 2 business days (Monday - Thursday).

  • Prior to licensing, everyone must obtain a learner’s license or permit in the State of Texas. Adults, ages 18-24 are required to go through a 6 hour adult drivers education course. XLR8 - Adults Driver Education satisfies this requirement. Many adults, ages 25+ find the 6 hour course beneficial because the lessons prepare them for the handbook test that they are required to take.

    To obtain a learners license:

    1. Take the XLR8 - Adult Driver Education course and handbook test at the end.

    2. Make an appointment with the DPS to get your learners license.

    3. Take the following documents to the DPS: birth certificate, social security card, 2 proofs of residency and the XLR8 provided ADE 1317.

    4. Fill out an application with the DPS and provide them $33.

  • Once an adult has obtained their learners license, they may begin learning to drive. Once they are ready to test, they should make an appointment with a Third Party Skills Test provider (approved driving school) or the DPS to take the driving test. Prior to testing, adults should watch the IMPACT Video. Adults must provide their permit and IMPACT certificate at the time of testing.
